J. Howard Miller’s iconic poster is often believed to be Rosie the Riveter or one of the many young women who were helping construct bombers and fighter planes on the west coast, but was actually a painting of a young woman from a helmet lining factory.
James Montgomery Flagg’s 1917 poster is probably the most famous example of U.S. propaganda. It was based on the original British Lord Kitchener posters and was successfully used to recruit soldiers during both the first and second world wars.
